IndyCar – Double the Races, Double the Fun?

Thanks to a combination of real life and inherent slacker tendencies interfering with writing about racing, I’ve neglected my personal musings about the sport I love.  For my three fans, I apologize and will strive to feed you more of my BS more often. For my anti-fans, I apologize, as you’ll likely be seeing more of my BS. So let’s talk about the past two IndyCar races at Pocono and Iowa and look at the upcoming Toronto race! With the compact schedule for the Verizon IndyCar Series, the races come…

SCCA – Fun in the Sun at Heartland Park

This past weekend, the Kansas City and Kansas Regions of the SCCA held their first of three joint Solo Event weekends at Heartland Park Topeka. For the Kansas City Region, the Saturday/Sunday double-header were Events 6 and 7. If was the first two events of the year for the Kansas Region. Both the Saturday and Sunday courses were designed by Ron Williams and incorporated many of the elements from the 2013 SCCA Solo Nationals course. It was a very different experience to compete on 20 acres of wide-open asphalt for…

In Focus – Speed

For my first photo in the In focus series, I chose this shot for two reasons.  First, I love open-wheel racing in all its forms and this type of racing is what has fueled my passion for all forms of motorsports now.  Second, I wanted a shot that I had never seen at a small dirt track.  Most shots of sprints cars, both wing and non-wing, are shot from inside a turn.  I wanted something that had more to it that mud and a wall.  I love the colors that…

PR – RED BULL GLOBAL RALLYCROSS RETURNS TO DIRTFISH

The breaking news that really kind of isn’t.  Red Bull GRC officially announced today that DirtFish Rally School will be the host of the penultimate round of the championship this coming September 26th and 27th.  In all honesty, I can’t think of anywhere else in the Pacific Northwest to showcase GRC.  I was there back in 2011 and it was quite honestly the best venue they’ve ever had for Rallycross in the USA, ever.  The reason I say this isn’t breaking news is simply because of DirtFish Rally School’s involvement…

Formula 1 – Simona Gets Closer to the Goal

Simona De Silvestro impressed many of us when she was in the IndyCar Series. We were simultaneously thrilled and bummed when we heard she was leaving IndyCar to pursue an opportunity as a reserve driver for Sauber. She is continuing to build partners and sponsors, and recently signed with DigitasLBi. While no official deal for a full-time drive has been announced yet, this certainly does take another step closer to the goal. We at OpenPaddock.net certainly wish Simona the best of luck and hope to see her on the grid…

Red Bull GRC Skips Detroit & Converts LA to a Double Header

The Red Bull Global Rallycross Championship announced today that they will not be in Detroit in August and instead will be doubling up their LA round in September to make sure the championship still has 10 rounds.  An interesting turn of events and I’m curious to dig into what caused the Detroit fallout.  Ford would have wanted to make a showing in their home town, but then again it is Detroit so maybe it was bound to fail anyway?  Official Press Release is below.            …
