TV – Weekend Racing Schedule for Oct 2nd and 3rd

The event list for this weekend is pretty light, but that doesn’t mean that we won’t have hours of motorsport goodness! Saturday starts with the Mustang Challenge in the “Why We Race” series on Discovery HD Theater. Its not bad way to start a Saturday morning, and its certainly better anything else that’s on now that we have no quality Saturday morning programming like Kung Fu Theater or any number of Godzilla movies. Next up is THE sportscar event of the year in North America, the Petit LeMans at Road…

TV – Weekend Racing Schedule for Sept. 18, and 19

ALMS is still off until the Petit LeMans at the end of the month, and this is a travel weekend for Formula 1. The good news, however, is that MotoGP and the IZOD IndyCar Series are back on track. MotoGP is back in Spain at Motorland Aragon, and the IndyCars are off to Japan to compete on the asymmetric 1.5-mile oval at Motegi. The Continental Tire Sports Car Series will be on right before the IndyCar race, and on Friday, Speed is airing the Monterrey Motorsports Reunion which features a…

You’ve already seen this video, because you already watch Fast Lane Daily religiously, right? RIGHT? Well, if you don’t you should! In their latest episode, they go through the history of motorsport and select the top five most influential drivers. If you missed it, here’s the vid. In summary, the top five most influential according to FLD: Aytron Senna Rodger Penske Dale Earnhart, Sr. Dan Gurney James Garner as Pete Aaron I think they make some compelling arguments, but I also think they got it a bit wrong if we’re…

TV – Weekend Racing Schedule for Sept 3rd, 4th, and 5th

The schedule this weekend is considerably lighter than it was last weekend, but then most weekends are. Last week was almost too much! …nah, there is no such thing as too much motorsports. This week, though, we do get a bit of a breather. IndyCar Racing arrives at the extremely competitive 1.5-mile Kentucky Speedway. Last year Ed Carpenter nearly pulled off a David-and-Goliath story against Penske driver and then championship leader Ryan Briscoe. Ryan just barely nosed ahead of Ed to score the win. Last week’s race at Chicagoland Speedway…

TV – Weekend Racing Schedule for August 27, 28, and 29th

FORMULA 1 RETURNS! MOTOGP RETURNS! INDYCAR OVAL RACING RETURNS! Its a great weekend to be a racing fan with access to cable TV. At long last, the Formula 1 returns from holiday to compete at one of the most epic racing circuits on the planet: Spa-Francorchamps! Spa is always a good show, especially if the rains come as forecasted. The shorter MotoGP break is also over and the riders return to Indianapolis. Sadly, I will be watching on TV this year, rather than being at the track. I’m gutted about…

TV – Your Weekend Racing Schedule

I’m going to try something new here at OpenPaddock. To be honest, this is really driven by a selfish motivation to be more organized about my TV viewing/recording after realizing that I’ve been missing the SCCA World Challenge races on Versus. Grr! Every Friday, I’m going to try and have a listing of the racing being aired each weekend with all times in Eastern. I’ll focus just on those forms of racing we cover here, so you NASCAR fans are on your own. Sorry. Also, I cheated a little by…

F1 – What’s the Point of the New Point System

As long as things go to the FIA’s plans, the grid will be filled at Bahrain with 26 entries. Due to that, they have decided to revamp the current points system. Last week we heard rumors for the first time that this was going to happen, and before we could really digest it, the new point system was approved by the World Motorsport Council. The overriding goal was to pay out more positions, since the grid would be larger. The new system will pay out to 10th place. While this…

MotoGP – Saturday Qualifying

The weather during morning warmup was unseasonably cool, again. However, this is likely a good thing since Race Day will be even cooler. It gave the teams perhaps a chance at guessing the grip level correctly for the race and qualification. Tyre degradation was an issue all morning long, and during qualifications. Neither the tyres or the cool weather seemed to phase Dani Pedrosa in the slightest, as he set a new track record of 1’40.271″ during FP2 in the morning. During qualifications, he set a new track record again…

MotoGP – Friday Practice at IMS

The MotoGP circus returns to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway this weekend for the second time. Last year, rain engulfed Friday’s practice sessions, and this year started out no different. Although the day started out dry, near the end of the 125cc practice, the skies opened up and the rain continued for the rest of the day. It wasn’t a driving rain, just a steady light rain that soaked the track and many fans. Fortunately, the forecast for Saturday and Sunday look MUCH different than last year when the track was…
