Indycar-Hunter-Reay Reaps Racing Rewards

Under the sparkling lights of the Auto Club Speedway grandstand towers, Ryan Hunter-Reay broke through as one of racing’s great underdog stories to win the 2012 IZOD Indycar Series Championship over Will Power, becoming the fourth driver to bring home the title for Andretti Autosport. Hunter-Reay joins Tony Kanaan, Dario Franchitti and Dan Wheldon as drivers who have won the series championship for the fabled racing family, and the first for the team under the IZOD Indycar Series banner. Just a few short years ago, Ryan Hunter-Reay was testing a…

IndyCar – Sad Entry List for Iowa

The IndyCar series has taken many hits this year, from the down economy to the poor racing at Kansas, Indy and Texas. But the most telling indicator of the health of the series remains the unstable car counts from race to race. At Texas, we had a season high of 24 cars (apart from Indy) which followed the season low of 21 at Milwaukee. Well, this weekend for Iowa appears to be more of the same. Only 20 cars showed up on the entry list. No part time entries were…

Tagliani and Manning In for St. Pete

As we reported earlier, Dreyer and Reinbold prepared a second car for St. Petersburg but had not yet officially announced a driver or submitted it to the entry list for this weekend’s festivities. While we here at Open Paddock surmised that Tomas Scheckter would most likely get the nod since he has been toting bags of cash looking for somebody to help him overcome his half-shaft habit, we also suggested that Milka Duno couldn’t be ruled out. In both cases, we were wrong. Darren Manning has been tapped to fill…
