Star Mazda – St. Petersburg Starting Grid and Preview

The Star Mazda Championship Presented by Goodyear begins its 2012 season on the Streets of St. Petersburg this weekend, and it looks like they will start with a pretty healthy grid. While not the 30+ cars they used to have, its still nice to see that 21 cars will take laps in anger around the hybrid airport/street circuit in St. Petersburg, Florida for two races this Saturday and Sunday. Juncos Racing looks to be very strong this season with the addition of Connor Di Philippi and the resigning of Martin…

USF2000 – Sebring Field Shatters Record and Expectations

I’ve been saying for a while now that the Cooper Tires Presents the USF2000 National Championship Powered by Mazda was going to have some great fields this season, but even my overly-optimistic fan-boy predictions were short of the mark! I had thought that we’d see mid- to high-twenties, which I thought was a bit of a stretch. Turns out, it was a gross underestimate! A total of 35 cars are signed up to contest the opening round at Sebring International Raceway this Thursday and Friday. This shatters the previous record…

F1 – 2010 Driver Lineup – Alguersuari Confirmed at Torro Rosso

Torro Rosso announced today that Jaime Alguersuari will return to the team for the 2010 season as Sebastian Buemi’s teammate.  No big shock in this one, since Red Bull’s motor racing consultant Helmut Marko said earlier this week, “It will be Alguersuari. It’s just some contractual details that have to be solved, but generally it’s Alguersuari” Marko was at the time shooting down rumors that Nick Heidfeld or Bruno Senna were lined up for the seat.  “In our considerations, Nick Heidfeld plays no role. That has nothing to do with…

F1 – Lotus Confirm Drivers

Team Lotus is the first of the new F1 teams to announce their full lineup for the 2010 season. Jarno Trulli and Heikki Kovalainen were announced Monday as the main two drivers with Fairuz Fauzy being named as the official test driver. Trulli will continue his career in refugee status as he lost out in the Toyota pullout (not so sure he would have stayed anyways). As for Heikki, this drive has to be a bit sour after losing his McLaren seat. Both drivers will be looking to have some…

F1 – Eccelstone Doubts USF1

It has been known for what seems like eternity that Bernie Ecclestone is a very outspoken man. One to never let an opportunity in front of a microphone go, Bernie has now heaped scorn at the Peter Windsor/Ken Anderson USF1 entry claiming that he does not believe the team will be ready for 2010. The new Charlotte based team has worked methodically and round the clock to ensure their entry would hit the grid by 2010 and have done it all right in my opinion. They have their own chassis…

F1 – More Entries for 2010

The FIA has written to the teams to seek their blessing to expand to 14 teams for the 2010 season. This was prompted by BMW finding a buyer for their operation and the addition of Lotus as a new team. Lotus F1 has taken the official 13th entry on the grid for next season with backing from the Malaysian government and several Malaysian firms. The team principal has been announced to be Tony Fernandes, the founder and CEO of Tune Group who owns Air Aisa. Mike Gascoyne has been named…

F1 – Manor F1 Driver Selection

While the silly season is well and truly underway for the F1 paddock, there are a number of teams who have no drivers at all. Those teams are the new kids on the block for the 2010 grid. While rumors run wild about just who will be in the first of the USF1 cars, another team has announced a few they are looking at as well. Manor F1 is also in the market for some new drivers and there is a pool of former test drivers and drop outs that…

F1 – USF1 Set for October

Production of the first USF1 car may only be a couple months away as the team really kicks up the pace in anticipation for the 2010 season. Speaking with Autosport, Ken Anderson put a bit more information out on how the team has progressed since the FIA accepted their request to participate in the F1 World Championship. “The chassis is locked down, because we were waiting to hear if the [Cosworth] engine rev limit was 20,000rpm or 18,000rpm” Anderson said during the interview. We now know that the engine limit…

IndyCar – Sad Entry List for Iowa

The IndyCar series has taken many hits this year, from the down economy to the poor racing at Kansas, Indy and Texas. But the most telling indicator of the health of the series remains the unstable car counts from race to race. At Texas, we had a season high of 24 cars (apart from Indy) which followed the season low of 21 at Milwaukee. Well, this weekend for Iowa appears to be more of the same. Only 20 cars showed up on the entry list. No part time entries were…
