IndyCar – 2010 Schedule Thoughts

The 2010 schedule has been rumored to be released next weekend around the Kentucky race. Just as a preview, I thought it would be good to put up a list of all the possibilities that have been mentioned in the media. The following venues already have contracts in place for next season: (o)=oval    (r)=road/street bold=new venues for next season Edmonton Airport (r) Toronto Street Course (r) Long Beach Street Course(r) St. Petersburg Street Course (r) Mid-Ohio (r) Chicago (o) Texas (o) Indianapolis (o) Twin Ring Motegi (o) Possible Confirmations…

Indy Lights – The Canadian Swing

No doubt that the Watkins Glen and the Toronto IndyCar races were pretty good, but the oval products has definitely suffered this season. This is certainly NOT the case with the IRL’s feeder series, the Firestone Indy Lights (FIL). On all types of tracks this year, super speedways like IMS, short ovals like Iowa, road courses, street courses, the racing in the Indy Lights series has been fantastic. Sadly, the car count has diminished as the season has worn on, but with a strong core of highly talented drivers, the…

IndyCar – Toronto Review

The IndyCar series travelled into Canada this weekend for a street race that had a lot to live up to after a great weekend at Watkins Glen. Needless to say they had no problem duplicating a brilliant show with possibly the best race so far this year. This race had great passing, strategy, and plenty of controversy to go around. The start of the race was great and Will Power instantly suffered as we seen contact before the green flag that almost sent him a lap down. The race then…

IndyCar – Toronto Preview

The IRL IndyCar Series moves this weekend to Toronto for their first visit. But while many in the series have not raced the street course before, the CCWS teams such as KV, Coyne & Newman Haas Lanigan have experience that will help them out. The entry list for the race includes the usual suspects plus a few extra faces. Alex Tagliani and Paul Tracy will be making appearances in an attempt to attract the interest of the Canadian audience. They will be driving for Conquest and KV Racing respectively. Both…

Indycar – Camping @ the Glen

The IndyCar series traveled to upstate New York for their fourth of July celebrations as the Camping World Grand Prix brought the American open wheel cars back to the road course. Watkins Glen is a beautiful track that has hosted Formula 1 races and more recently, it has been one of two road racing fixtures in the Nascar series. The obvious racing headline going into the event was the domination of Penske and Ganassi throughout this year. Ganassi had the momentum after a strong showing at Iowa and Penske was looking…

IndyCar – Rules and the Law of Unintended Consequences

Since the last weekend in April, the IndyCar series has been oval racing but the excitement of high-speed side-by-side racing has certainly been lacking. At the end of the Kansas Race, I wrote a short editorial, What Happened to Competitive Racing, where I went on a little rant about the new wheelbase rules further limiting the freedom of the engineers and reducing the drivability and competitiveness of the cars. It was pointed out at the time that the extreme weather might have been the primary factor for the lack-luster racing…

IndyCar – Sad Entry List for Iowa

The IndyCar series has taken many hits this year, from the down economy to the poor racing at Kansas, Indy and Texas. But the most telling indicator of the health of the series remains the unstable car counts from race to race. At Texas, we had a season high of 24 cars (apart from Indy) which followed the season low of 21 at Milwaukee. Well, this weekend for Iowa appears to be more of the same. Only 20 cars showed up on the entry list. No part time entries were…

IndyCar – Tracy To Drive at The Glen

Things keep looking better and better for Paul Tracy. KV Racing Technologies announced today that veteran driver Paul Tracy would return to the team, and the Geico sponsorship, for the Camping World Grand Prix at The Glen over the July 4th holiday weekend at the historic Watkins Glen International Raceway. “I am pleased to announce that Paul Tracy and GEICO Insurance will be joining KV Racing Technology for the race at Watkins Glen,” said KVRT co-owner Jimmy Vasser. “Running Paul at The Glen with Mario gives us the opportunity to…

IndyCar – RHR: I Am Moving!

Chalk this one up as something out of left field! It has been announced this afternoon that Ryan Hunter-Reay will be moving from the #21 Vision Racing car to the #14 AJ Foyt car to replace Vitor Meira for the remainder of the season. Vitor broke his back after heavy contact with the wall at Indy after he was bumped by Raphael Matos in the closing laps of the race. His back did not need surgery to correct and the recovery process may wrap up before the end of the…
