Rally – Gronholm Coming to America

However it is not the capacity that we were hoping. There will be no Rally America for Marcus, but Pikes Peak is another matter all together. Former WRC champion will be fitted into a brand new Ford Fiesta RS for the climb. The Fiesta is not due in the states for another year, but it is a hot little car that is bound to grab attention. Marcus has run one WRC event this year and put up excellent pace in the Prodrive Subaru. There are talks of another WRC rally…

IndyCar – Scheckter at The Mile

Dreyer and Reinbold Racing announced today that Tomas Scheckter will drive for them this weekend at Milwaukee. Initially their #23 entry was listed as TBA, indicating that Milka Duno would not be filling the seat this weekend. Per D&R’s press release, the team is in discussion with Tomas about additional races. It would appear that our South African friend has some money for more than just Indy. Recall that last year the #23 entry was split between Milka and Townsend Bell. So far this season, it has been split between…

IndyCar – Milwuakee Up Next

The Milwaukee Mile resumed its prime location a few years ago on the IndyCar schedule on the week following the Indy 500.  And while Eddie Gossage at Texas Motor Speedway would prefer that IndyCar not hold a race this weekend so that he could have the first race after the 500, traditionalists much prefer the schedule the way it is. Milwaukee opened for auto racing in 1903, making it the oldest motorsport venue on the planet.  In 1954 the one mile dirt oval was paved and an infield road course…

IndyCar – Indy 500 Parting Shot

The banquet is over, the teams have packed up and everybody is gearing up for Milwaukee this weekend. Helio climbed the fence on Sunday, ending an idyllic month of May for himself and for Team Penske. It tends to be a bit of a surprise when the strongest car all month actually goes on to get the milk bath, but Penske didn’t put a foot wrong in preparation for the May classic and their detailed preparation payed off. This year saw a noticeable increase in attendance (from my vantage point),…

IndyCar – Dust Settles at IMS

Earlier today, an article by Robin Miller at SpeedTV.com was published that stated that Tony George had been ousted by a vote of the board comprised mainly of his family as CEO of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Later, they rephrased the title to “Transition at IMS” and added the speedway’s rebuttal to their article. SI.com, the IBJ and Channel 6 all got involved in the act, but at the end of the day, we have had no confirmation that Robin Miller’s assertions were correct. The article on SpeedTV has not…

IndyCar – Not So Fast Miller!

The Indianapolis Motor Speedway has released a statement debunking the speedtv.com article put up by Robin Miller earlier today. Here is their statement: At a regular meeting of the board of directors of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Tuesday, May 26, board members asked Tony George, chief executive officer of the IMS companies, to devise a plan for management of Hulman and Company, the Indy Racing League, Clabber Girl and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway that would allow him to focus on the business which requires the greatest attention. This plan…

IndyCar – Tony George Pink Slip?

According to an article by Robin Miller at speedtv.com, Tony George is no longer the CEO at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. A vote was reportedly taken by the board of directors which consist of his mom, his three sisters, himself and the speedway’s attorney which relieved the grandson of Tony Hulman from his position as top man at the most famous racetrack on the planet. This leads one to ponder the possible reasons why the family has replace Tony. First on the list is the most likely to me. Tony…

Veteran CART/CCWS/IndyCar driver Paul Tracy has been signed by AJ Foyt to drive his #14 this weekend in at the Milwaukee Mile. This weekend’s race is sponsored by ABC Supply who also sponsors Foyt’s IndyCar effort. Also, it should be noted that the event title is the ABC Supply/AJ Foyt 225. Got to put up a good showing for the sponsors, and who better to thrill the big wigs than the Thrill From West Hill. Vitor Miera is expected to be out of action for 4-6 months, but he is…

IndyCar – Indy 500 Results

May has culminated in the conclusion of the 93rd running of the Indianapolis 500 and Roger Penske can now change his license plate from “1 INDY 14” to “1 INDY 15”. Helio Castroneves climbed the fence and drank the milk as he and his team took home the top honors and a record paycheck of $3,048,005 as Helio chalked up his third victory at the famed Indianapolis oval. Helio has been embattled since the close of last season as Federal tax evasion charges had been filed against him and he…
