IndyCar – Sato: Blocking or Fair Play?

Takuma Sato of A. J. Foyt Racing team

I don’t think you’ll find anyone who watched today’s Itaipava Sao Paulo Indy 300 that didn’t think it was one of the best IndyCar races in a very long time. What you will find is a lot of controversy over A.J. Foyt Racing’s Takuma Sato and his driving style in the final laps of the race. While defending his position first against Sarah Fisher Hartman Racing’s Josef Newgarden and finally Andretti Autosport’s James Hinchcliffe, it appeared to many that he actively blocked and chopped in front of his competitors. To…

Indy Humpday Report: Que up some Adoniran Barbosa*

Short column this week since I am about to start finals week, and the overwhelming subject still dominating discussions is Helio. (Will he punt someone yet again?) I would just like to point out that Helio has plenty of eyes on him this week. Not only are the fans in America and the Series officials watching Helio closely—the fans in Brazil are really watching. Should Helio do anything to Tony Kanaan, be ready for a borderline riot in the streets of Brazil. Also should Will Power be “shafted” due to…

This year, more than ever, it makes total sense for IndyCar to venture down to South America. There are a number of drivers from South America and especially Brazil, and a major sponsor and partner of the league APEX Brazil, so there will is strong support for the series which will hopefully translate to a strong attendance. The race will be held in the streets of Sao…

IndyCar – Drivers for Sao Paulo and Beyond

The inaugural Sao Paulo Indy 300 takes place in just a few short days, but there is still some suspense about who will be filling out the field for the race. Here’s what we know, the IRL has indicated that the entry list numbers 24 cars. So far, we have 22 confirmed car/driver combinations for the event. James Rossiter tested the #32 Lola painted car, and we know that car is on the plane to Brazil. It just sounds like we are waiting on an announcement for that program, so…

IndyCar – Sao Paulo Race Details

With just a scant 9 weeks remaining before the IndyCars make their first visit to Sao Paulo, the track layout has just broken into the news in Brazil. While I cannot understand Portuguese, driver Felipe Giaffone is seen in this video demonstrating a lap of Sao Paulo’s circuit layout. With just 9 weeks to go, they better have a final layout agreed. Especially since much of the route that is demonstrated appears to be in a bad state of repair. Reportedly, this circuit layout was distributed to the IndyCar teams…
