[youtube_sc url=”hyCBJvVwIcw”] It’s an advertisement for Hackett, a high-end clothier in Britain. That explains the sharp suits on the crew. Personally, I’d like to see the Williams crew’s firesuits tailored to look like these suits. It would be nothing short of bad-ass. The dry-cleaning bill could get pricey, though.

MRTI – WinterFest Round 1: NOLA Motorsports Park
It seems the racing world was dominated by NASCAR news surrounding driver drama and the Daytona 500, but it wasn’t the only racing going on. February 19-20 saw all three series that comprise the Mazda Road to Indy at NOLA Motorsports Park for Cooper Tires WinterFest. USF2000 and Pro Mazda had three races each, while Indy Lights was able to get some needed test sessions with the new IL-15. WinterFest is unique in that the races accumulate points that don’t transfer to the series’ regular seasons and a WinterFest champion…
Read MoreIndyCar – Beads, booze and bits for #IndyCarMediaDay
Beads? Booze? What do beads have to do with the Verizon IndyCar Series? This is Mardis Gras season, which is what manufacturers o beads look forward to each year. Most people don’t know anything about the celebrations leading into Lent beyond drunken revelry in New Orleans’ French Quarter where ladies show off their… ahem… assets in exchange for a string of plastic beads. Without digging too much into the history of Mardis Gras (including the fact that Mobile, Alabama has the oldest Mardis Gras celebration in the country – Thanks…

Mike and I spoke on the most recent podcast about the drivers from Nissan’s GT Academy and their stellar performance at the 12 Hours of Bathurst last weekend. If you’re unfamiliar with GT Academy, it is a competition backed by Nissan, Polyphony (the developers of the Gran Turismo games for Playstation consoles). Although the competition has been around since 2008, SpikeTV backed a reality show or the 2011 competition. The show lasted only one season, but they continue to film episodes, and all seasons are available on Nissan’s YouTube Channel.…
Read MoreIndyCar – Don’t fret, Brian. Derrick has your back!
Not surprisingly, the recent announcement that VICS placed Brian Barnhart back into the position of Race Director has drawn a large volume of very loud criticism from the die-hard fanbase, myself included. It is no secret that Barnhart has been inconsistent on his best of days and risked the lives of drivers on his worst. In an interview with Fox Sports, President of Competition and Operations Derrick Walker may be aware of Barnhart’s standing among the fans, but he really misses the point, much in the same way a car…
Read MoreLe Mans – Race to 24 Competition
As I’m perusing racing news, I happened upon a Facebook posting by Jonathon Summerton announcing his participation in Race to 24. This is something that I’d not heard of, so I started investigating as I listen to the Liqui-Moly Bathurst 12 Hour race on Radio LeMans. Twenty-four drivers start a competition to earn a seat in a Team Sard-Morand LMP2. Sard-Morand is a merger of Sard Racing from Japan and Benoit Morand’s team that ran in ELMS. Benoit Morand will be selecting the driver to join the team behind the…
Read MoreIndyCar – Back to the Dark Ages!
As it came to pass during the excessively long off-season, the Verizon IndyCar Series was awash in malaise. The long five months of nothingness wore the denizens of 16th & Georgetown to weak-willed and impressionable puddles, allowing that most foul of demons, Brian Barnhart to work his most dark magick and infiltrate their realm once again. And lo, in the year two thousand and fifteen, dark times have returned to the series of the wheels that are open. Yes, that’s right. IndyCar announced that Brian Barnhart is returning as Race…

Crazy stuff happens at the Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona. But I think Andy Lally had the craziest encounter on-track. I’ll let his tweets tell the story: This broke through the splitter & tub and then into the front of the car.. By the way we are out of the race pic.twitter.com/2b6UpcUdyC — Andy Lally (@AndyLally) January 25, 2015 They named the possum Ballast. HUGE testament to the PWR radiators.. BENT it,, and still held water. pic.twitter.com/DY7c9uGwqE — Andy Lally (@AndyLally) January 25, 2015 Despite the first tweet, they were…
Read MoreRALLY – Dakar Stage 13 w/ Robby Gordon
The Dakar Rally has been over for not quite a week now, and already the media arm of Robby Gordon’s off-road truck empire, Team Speed, has produced this very cool video of the final stage, which he won in the car class. It never ceases to amaze me how much control these drivers have when they appear to be completely out of control. About 2:20 into the video, Robby bicycles the truck on a sharp left-hander, rights the truck and carries on, ultimately winning the stage. The video is mostly…

In December, Racer magazine began a series of pieces about what people in and around the series think the direction of the Verizon IndyCar Series should take for 2018. Mario Andretti, Will Power, Bobby Unser and others have lent their opinion as well as others, with more pieces forthcoming. Each has a unique idea of how they would like to see the series improve over the next few years. I’m hardly an industry insider. I’m pretty much a hack blogger with an opinion. And opinions are neither right nor wrong,…
