I think you guys are utterly nuts if having to do about 4-5 extra mouse clicks and take an extra 2-3 minutes to download and sync your MP3 players or iPods every week equals you not listening to “Trackside with Cavin and Kevin” anymore. No, it’s not as simple as the old iTunes or RSS way of “set it and forget it”, and it’s a little annoying to not be able to listen to it at 1.5x speed anymore (so now it takes me about 40 extra minutes to get through a show), but it remains the best weekly source of news and discussion of all things IndyCar. It’s not like they’re making us pay for the show, or making us sit in front of a radio to hear it, it just takes marginally more effort than it used to. We do have our choices to make as far as what we do with our time, but I think that dropping that show because it’s not as instantaneous to access is like cutting off your nose to spite your face. YMMV, though, I suppose.
I will fully agree that Trackside is the best IndyCar-centric show on the planet, however, I do disapprove of their move to SoundCloud. I continue to listen, although it does require me to remember to manually fetch the show, which doesn’t always happen. It is not a move that encourages new consumers. As for paying for the show, I’d be happy to do that for a small subscription fee, but I know not everyone would. There’s enough listenership that one could sell ads or presenting sponsorship spots. I’ve never understood why ads were cut out of the podcast. Let people give you money! Most listeners will often be busy enough while listening to the show that they won’t skip over the spots. I don’t think this was a wise change.
