Rally – Meeke to MINI

Intercontinental Rally Champion Kris Meeke will once again compete in the WRC. Stories this morning have the star signing with MINI’s WRC efforts and while nothing has come out of the Meeke camp, all things are in motion for this to take place. Kris is the second name mentioned with program as it is heavily rumored P-G Andersson is also in line for a seat. It does not stop there however. Marcus Gronholm is also in the mix as he is set for a Portugal test of the new Countryman. There is also speculation that Marcus may sign a deal if he likes the new machine.

This would not be surprising as the Peugeot UK team has already mentioned leaving the IRC due to the domination of Skoda this year. Oliver Quesnel had less than stellar things to say about the team’s performance thus far. Meeke has had a number of DNFs this year with a lot of them stemming from crashes. Meeke has ran well in previous J-WRC events but never had great success. His real masterpiece came last year when he took the IRC title and won four rallies.

Prodrive has made no secret that the MINI program will be a development front for some of its younger talent. Meeke will fit nicely in this mix along with a P-G Andersson or even having a veteran Marcus Gronholm available. Stay tuned to this spot as we will track the MINI test as well as any potential news from Marcus or any solid confirmation on P-G.
