The Indianapolis Motor Speedway, having recently sacked its entire online media division, just hired a new CIO, Rhonda Winter. Ms. Winter has been around the Indianapolis area for a while working for the NCAA, Indianapolis Museum of Art (check their website! very cool, and not white text on black background!), and most recently with CIK Enterprises (whose web presence also does not suck). Here’s her comments from the announcement article at IndianapolisMotorSpeedway.com:
“I’m very excited to join the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in this new role,” Winter said. “Technology is a key tool that can be leveraged to enable strategies and grow core businesses, and I’m looking forward to ensuring that IMS continues as a worldwide motorsports leader in this area.”
This is a good step forward for the league. If you’re a listener to our podcast, you know how much we hate the current web presence of IndyCar. Their site is cluttered, hard to navigate, confusing, and buggy. In a word: Junk. Yes, certainly there’s FAR more to the job of CIO than just being a webmaster, but certainly it will be up t Ms. Winter to find the right staff to construct the new IZOD IndyCar Series 2010 Website. I for one am optimistic. After all, it couldn’t get much worse, could it?
