WRC – HD Theater TV Plans Announced

hdWe have known for quite a while that WRC was coming back to US television on HD Theater, but we haven’t known much about the details. Now we do.

On October 4th, HD Theater will air a 6 hour special on the WRC, which will end with a 1-hour wrap up of the 2009 season’s first event, Rally Ireland. The other 5 hours will be dedicated to introducing US fans to the cars, drivers, stages and events of the 2009 season.

Following the premiere weekend, HD Theater will show a 1-hour wrap up show for each of the 2009 WRC events each Sunday night during prime time for the next 11 weeks. None of this years events will be shown on the same weekend that the actual Rally takes place.

This leaves a few questions in my mind. Will we get to see daily updates next season, or will they only show a 1-hour wrap up show on the weekend of the Rally?

Clearly, as WRC fans, we will take what we can get. But we want Rally goodness to permeate our weekends, not just a highlight show at the end of the Rally. We want a news/preview show before the Rally. We want the option to watch stages live on HD Theater’s website, we want those awesome helicopter shots of the cars going through the stages, we want at least an hour of coverage per day of the rally, and we want good commentary.

HD rally goodness is coming our way. Can you blame me if I am wanting as much of it as possible?

  1. I’m not going to complain about the 2009 events coming they way they are. It will be good to have something fun to watch during the off-season. Hopefully, we can get a race-weekend show for 2010. If I recall correctly, SpeedTV only had a 1hr recap show on Sunday, but it was pretty good. Seemed like a straight purchase from WRCTV. …wonder if the HDT deal is similar.

Whatever it is, I’m excited to watch!
