Rally – Solberg Chooses Citroen

2008 Citroen C4We have been waiting for some time now on a decision from Petter Solberg in regards to his choice in car for the last two rounds of the championship. The former champion has teetered on the brink of an 07 C4 and an 08 Focus to use in Spain and Great Britain. Now that he has had a chance to drive them both, he has made his decision.

The C4 will get the nod for the last two rounds with Petter saying it is the best car for him at this time. He will run a 2008 specification and then eventually update to the current C4 used by champion Sebastian Loeb. Loeb has been utilizing a Citroen Xsara that is owned and operated by his team, but lacked the parts and upgrades to really challenge for podiums let alone victories. This new Citroen should give him a realistic shot at a podium. Solberg at this point is still undecided on 2010 and indicated that this deal has no impact on his future decisions.

Given the two cars that Petter was looking at I can understand why the decision was a tough one. Given that he has already been piloting the Xsara, the C4 was probably the better choice for him and will offer good factory support from the French squad. Petter will surely be a threat for the podium here on out due to the great runs he had in the aged Xsara.
