F1 – Australian Grand Prix Thoughts

Saturday night/Sunday morning brought us the second round of the Formula 1 2010 campaign and WOW! What a difference a wet track makes! Jenson Button would take an impressive victory and would actually get a couple respect points added in my book. The first corner clash of champions would prove too much for Michael Schumacher to overcome, but what about Fernando Alonso? What a dominant performance in the Ferrari after being spun completely around. I for one had wrote him off after that and he then showed me why he…

F1 – Sauber Utilizing McLaren Style “Snorkel”

I have already commented this year that i think the 2010 F1 cars look a million times better than that of the 2009 model. There was also some new innovation on the cars like 50 winglet front ends and new rear diffusers. The diffusers have already stirred up some controversy, but so has a certain McLaren “snorkel” device that now Sauber is ready to test and other teams are close to their own design. The piece in question is a vent mounted on the top of the nose. This vent…

Diffuser Row Take 2

It was Australia of last year when we found out about a trick double decker diffuser that was placed on the Brawn GP machine that raised a number of questions. The diffuser was then made legal and the other teams were forced to design one for the rest of the season. However, by that time the damage had been done and Button would go on to be your champion. The FiA announced today that the diffuser will change again and now a select number of teams have been told to…

F1 – Bahrain Review and Some Thoughts

The first race of the 2010 world championship has come and gone and everybody can be happy that the natural order has been restored. However the most anticipated season in F1 history continued to display the same gremlins that the FiA just can’t shake. Fernando Alonso would eventually take victory after Sebastian Vettel hit engine trouble (spark plug) in the closing stages. Fernando is the second straight full time Ferrari driver to win on his debut. The Maranello based squad put on an impressive debut with a 1-2 finish as…

F1 – Friday Practice Thoughts

I will preface this bit by saying this will only cover free practice 2 since that is all we in the US are legally capable of getting. I was happy to see that cars were on track for the first time in 2010. With all the depressing news on USF1 and the other teams as well as the return of Michael and all of the positive stories in the news, I was like a boy on Christmas Eve hardly able to sleep last night. Here are just a few things…

F1 – Jerez Day 2: Parts go Flying!

The second day of testing at Jerez concluded earlier today and Kamui Kobayashi captured the fastest time. The weather was dry for the most part which provided some good lap times. It was clear that most of the front running teams were concerned with distance running as both Schumacher and Alonso put in a ton of mileage. The event of the day had to be the Virgin Racing machine piloted by Timo Glock. The German put up another dead slow lap but that was not the fun. The Virgin machine…

F1 – Jerez Day 1

The second official winter test of the 2010 season has began this week and we have day one times and highlights. A few drivers were able to set some dry lap times before rain moved into the area causing slower lap times. This provided a chance for the teams to test their new cars in the wet conditions. Force India, Virgin Racing, and Red Bull were new additions to the testing session with the Red Bull squad suffering mechanical failure early. Not a hot start for the drink racers as…
