IndyCar – Meira Situation Update

Vitor Meira suffered a massive accident in the 93rd running of the Indianapolis 500 and has been transported to Methodist Hospital. Track officials did say that Meira was alert and moving all extremities after the huge head on impact at 220 mph. He was carried off the track on a stretcher but was complaining of lower back pains. Rapheal Matos was the second car involved and suffered a bruised knee. He was able to walk off the track but needed track officials assistance. We will keep the situation updated as…

Bump Day has come and gone and the field of 33 is set for the 93rd installment of the Greatest Spectacle in Racing on this the 100th anniversary of the opening of the track in 1909. The back of the grid was formed today for this years Indianapolis 500 and topping the time sheet was Newman Haas Lanigan’s Robert Doornbos. After a disasterous first weekend of qualifications, the second NHL car put up a speed of 221.692. Bruno Junqueira has been confirmed in the #36 car for Conquest Racing. Friday was the final practice before this weekend’s resumption of qualifying at the brickyard, and it was a day full of intrigue. Mike Conway was cleared to drive by the IRL’s medical staff this morning. Mike Conway wadded up his #24 Dreyer and Reinbold entry Sunday morning during practice as he prepared for day 2 of qualifying for the Indy 500. The wreck was serious enough that he was transported to Methodist Hospital where he was diagnosed with a minor concussion and a bruised lung. Conway was released today and will be evaluated on Friday by IndyCar series staff for his potential return to action in time for Day 3 of qualifying on Saturday.
