Indy Lights Turnout at Barber

Barber Motorsports park has released attendance figures for their first day of open testing with the Indy Lights in their ongoing campaign for inclusion on the 2010 IndyCar calendar.  7,600 people showed up to watch the IndyLights test on Saturday. 7,600!  That’s about as many people that attended last season’s opener at Homestead….  (OK at least it looked like 7,600 at Homestead) Sunday will kick off IndyCar series testing which will last through the end of the day on Monday.  Attendance on Sunday is expected to top 10,000. FIA Resigns New Point Sytem to 2010

After the FIA announced the WMSC decisions taken on Monday, the F1 media, the teams, the drivers and even the past champions were in a bit of an uproar.  The FIA unilaterally decided that the point system be changed so that the driver who had the most wins in the 2009 season and beyond would be the winner of the World Driver’s Championship, regardless of if he had more points than anyone else.  This on top of new sweeping regulations for 2010 which would call for a voluntary team budget…

IndyCar Barber Open Test Preview

The IndyCar series returns to Barber Motorsports Park outside Birmingham, Alabama this weekend for open testing. Previous to this, IndyCar conducted a suitability test in October of 2008 with seven drivers. Saturday will see the Indy Lights take to the track from 9am to 5pm, with the big cars running on Sunday and Monday from 9am – 5pm as well. Qualifications for the 12 Hours of Sebring took place today and the story of the day was the Acura LMP1 taking pole position from the Audi and Peugeot. Scott Dixon drove the ARX-02a to a fast lap of 1:45:278. Kristensen put the new Audi R-15 in P2 and Christian Klien has the 908 Coupe starting P3.
