Barber Motorsports park has released attendance figures for their first day of open testing with the Indy Lights in their ongoing campaign for inclusion on the 2010 IndyCar calendar. 7,600 people showed up to watch the IndyLights test on Saturday. 7,600! The IndyCar series returns to Barber Motorsports Park outside Birmingham, Alabama this weekend for open testing. Previous to this, IndyCar conducted a suitability test in October of 2008 with seven drivers. Saturday will see the Indy Lights take to the track from 9am to 5pm, with the big cars running on Sunday and Monday from 9am – 5pm as well. The ALMS Series is gearing up for its kickoff at Sebring and Peugeot have claimed quickest during practice. The Audis followed closely behind while Acura struggled from lack of straight away speed. IndyCar champion Scott Dixon who will be piloting one of the Acuras stated the car was slow in a straight line but flew through the corners. In GT2 class, Rahal Letterman BMW put together a solid morning session finishing 3rd and 4th respectively. Qualifications will be live on SPEED here in the states Thursday afternoon.

Sebastian Loeb claimed his 50th win of his career this weekend beating out Ford’s Miko Hirvonen. Petter Solberg finished the rally on the podium in 3rd. The podium finish for Solberg has to be a breath of fresh air for the driver after the events of this past off season. Loeb has further put a stamp on this years title, and for Ford it is back to the drawling board after 6 days of testing leads to further disappointment.

Day 2 of the Rally Cyprus is in the books and Sebastian Loeb seems on pace to capture his 50th WRC victory. However, weather conditions and the gravel surface severly hampered the front runners.
