Bouncing back across to the eastern side of the country after the west coast swing of Oregon Trail Rally and Olympus Rally we’ve now reached the halfway point in the Rally America National Championship. The Susquehannock Trail Performance Rally is round 5 and it is set to be a barnstormer of an event.
At the top Open Class we have the returning battle between Subaru Rally Team USA teammates David Higgins and Craig Drew vs. Travis Pastrana and Christian Edstrom. So far the score is one win apiece, so who will win this one? I can tell you it will likely be a very close battle as both 100 Acre Wood and Oregon Trail were separated by seconds all weekend and came down to the final stages on the final day to decide the winner.
Super Production sees the return of Nick Roberts, Troy Miller, and Gary Gill. They’ll be up against some good regional competition by Alvin Fong, Patrick Brennan and others. In 2wd we’ll see a full on Fiesta ST shootout with entries from Cameron Steely, Anthony Concha, John Concha, and Team O’Neil’s Steve LaRoza. 2wd points leaders Ryan Millen and Christina fate will try and disrupt the flying Fiesta’s with their Rally RAV4 as they have all season. B-Spec is looking interesting as well with 4 entries including “Street Bike Tommy” in the Honda Fit “Star Car.” It will be interesting to see if Keanna Erickson-Chang can start matching stage times with Jordan Guitar now that their Fiesta 1.0L Turbo is working as it should.
There will be plenty of action to follow with 60 teams battling with each other and against the elements over the next two days. Be sure to follow all the action on the following media outlets (and we’ll try and cover as much as we can remotely as well). Word is that cellular signal is good in many areas, so keep an eye out for Periscope and Facebook live streaming too!
