Last Sunday was the opener for the brand new SCCA Northwest RallySprint season. As Kito Brielmaier of the NW Rally Association told us in our RallyCast Podcast last week, this is the first RallySprint event of at least 3 in Washington with others in Oregon soon to be announced to create a regional championship. Results from round 1 can be found on their web site here and we have a few of our favorite photos from the event below with a full gallery coming soon.
Located again at the DirtFish Rally School in Snoqualmie, Washington the organizers had a bit more room to play with this time.
Although the 13 car entry wasn’t as high as the inaugural event in December, it was still loads of fun for the competitors and this time fans got to enjoy being in the sun instead of horizontal rain and near freezing temperatures.
A few found the SCCA RallySprint a good place to do a shakedown before the Oregon Trail Rally that takes place in a couple of weeks.
One of those was Tino Fortunato in his wild liveried 2016 Subaru WRX STI. Tino took home a fantastic 2nd place which is all the more impressive considering he is still running stock suspension, stock ECU, and his engine wasn’t working right ever since those big water splashes at The Rally in the 100 Acre Wood last month.
We are big fans of classics, and I don’t think there is anybody better in the Pacific NW at building classic rally cars than Garth Ankeny of Trackside Motorsports. This little gem is a 1981 Toyota Starlet. Unfortunately the new build had a problem resulting in a DNF, but damn was it cool while it was running!
Massive thanks to our photographer Tedrick Mealy for inhaling the dust and getting these great pics, and we can’t wait to see the entire gallery!
