Wow, what a long an exciting week and a half at the World’s Greatest Race Course! Although we didn’t beat the rain to IMS on Fast Friday, we were there for Pole Day, Bump Day, Community Day, Media Day, Carb Day, the Night Before the 500, and of course Race Day. It was great meeting up with old friends and seeing some twitter folk for the first time. Best of all, I got to show off our new baby girl on Carb Day! 😀 I shared the qualifying weekend photos already so here are the IZOD IndyCar Series photos from Carb Day and Race Day. I know that there are only Race Day morning photos, and none of the race itself. Forgive me, but at Indianapolis, an hour before the green flag, the photo bib and cameras get put in the trunk, I don my Stand J ticket, crack open a beer and become a fan in the stands. I’ll be back in action at Milwaukee and will have race photos from there as well as a bunch of SCCA photos from Heartland Park Topeka after this weekend.

This past weekend, the Firestone Indy Lights boys took to the Grand Ole Track as well, and put on one heck of a show! On Saturday night, the USF2000 and Pro Mazda drivers did battle on Lucas Oil Raceway’s 5/8-mile oval as part of the Night Before the 500 event. I apologize for not capturing all of the Pro Mazda race, but when the rains came as the cars gridded up, we looked at the radar and saw a mass of greens and yellows. Figuring that they were done for the evening, we started to make our way out of the track. Turns out they did run a race, but they didn’t get it started until 11pm. Had it been any other night, I would have stayed, but with an 0400 alarm set to get to IMS the next morning, we gave up. The USF2000 race was amazing, though! Here’s the photos and I’ll have a wrap-up of the Night Before the 500 soon.
