Some of you in the eastern half of the US may have heard a loud detonation or felt a seismic event yesterday. That was the head out our own Spike Rogan exploding after his conversation with Christopher Mele, Executive Editor for the Pocono Record, about IZOD IndyCar Series’ return to Pocono Raceway. Spike has been leading a campaign for a LONG time advocating the return of open-wheel racing to the tricky triangle through various social-media outlets, including a dedicated page Bring IndyCar Back to Pocono.
“Every chance I got to interview the legends, I would ask, ‘Should IndyCar go back to Pocono?’ Guess what? Everyone gave the same answer: Yes! From Mario Andretti, to A.J. Foyt, to even the names of IndyCar after they left Pocono, like Davey Hamilton, now a radio announcer, and the newest IndyCar champion Ryan Hunter-Reay. They all saw the Tricky Triangle as an important place to return to,” said Spike in the Pocono Record article, Looks like IndyCar is back at Pocono Raceway
The official word on the schedule won’t come out until this Sunday on SPEED’s Wind Tunnel with Dave Dispain. Look for column by Spike soon, as he will be at the official announcement at the Pocono Raceway on Monday.
For myself, I’m very excited to see not just another oval on the schedule, but a unique and challenging oval. The 1.5-mile cookie cutters just don’t have the same character that many of the older ovals have with their one-of-a-kind geometry. The 2013 IZOD IndyCar Series season is already looking bright!
