Zach Veach, veteran USF2000 driver for Andretti Autosport, will compete in the Formula Car Challenge Presented by Goodyear Winter Series in the Pro Formula Mazda class at Infineon Raceway this weekend, November 12th and 13th. In addition to being a great event, this will give Zach even more time behind the wheel of a Star Mazda machine in preparation for his full-season effort in the 2012 Star Mazda Championship for Andretti Autosport.

“Coming off a successful test at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, I’m really looking forward to this opportunity to compete in this winter series. The West coast always has a lot of great talent so I’m excited to compete with the series regulars and do my best to put in a great result for Andretti Autosport and INDYCAR.” — Zach Veach, #77 Andretti Autosport
Zach has already driven the Star Mazda machine in anger around the Infineon Raceway circuit when he competed in the 2011 Star Mazda Championship round at the circuit where he qualified in P8 and improved to P7 by race end.
The Formula Car Challenge is a unique event in which multiple classes of open-wheel Mazda-powered cars compete simultaneously. While we’re used to seeing multi-class competition in sportscar racing, we don’t normally associate it with open-wheel racing. …unless we include the Formula 1.5 teams of Virgin, Team Lotus, and HRT. It will be a good lesson for all to be mindful of their position on track and the position of the cars around them.
In addition to the Star Mazda machines competing in the Pro Formula Mazda class, there will also be a Formula Mazda class and a FormulaSPEED 2.0 class. The Formula Car Challenge completes its five-race Winter Series at the Auto Club Speedway on January 20-22.
