After the flurry of activity during the Month of May, the Mazda Road to Indy program is set to take a race weekend off as all three series, the Cooper Tires Presents the US F2000 National Championship Powered by Mazda, the Star Mazda Championship Presented by Goodyear, and the Firestone Indy Lights Series all will skip the IZOD IndyCar Series event at the Texas Motor Speedway this weekend. The next race for all three series will be the weekend of June 17th at the Milwaukee Mile. Until then, the teams will be testing, resting, and preparing. All except for Jensen Motorsports, that is!
This weekend, Uncle Bernie is bringing his Formula 1 circus to North America for the Canadian Grand Prix at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal, and one of the support races is a Formula Tour 1600 event. Jensen Motorsports has entered their development driver, Ryan Tveter, and two others, Thomas MacGregor and Shelby Blackstock, in this weekend’s F1600 races with support from The Alpha Group and EnerSys® via its ODYSSEY® battery brand.

“This is terrific news that The Alpha Group will join our team, especially to begin their program at the high-profile Montreal Grand Prix Formula 1 event. Last Friday our Indy Lights team set the new Lap Record at the famous Indianapolis Motor Speedway with an average speed of 192.672 mph, so we enter Montreal with The Alpha Group and driver Ryan Tveter on a real high.” — Eric Jensen, President – Jensen Motorsports
Yes, you read that correctly. Something that was overlook amongst all the carnage of this year’s Firestone Freedom 100 is that we had the opportunity to have those six magical and thrilling words uttered over the PA at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, “And its a NEEEEW TRAAAACK RECORD!” David Ostella broke the Firestone Indy Lights speed record by logging a race lap at a speed of 192.672 mph! Well done that man!! Although, I missed it as well, I hope David and the rest of the Jensen Motorsports team will still accept my congratulations. That record setting car will be on display in Montreal as Jensen Motorsports is featured in the Crescent Street Festival. If you’re attending the Grand Prix, be sure to check out the display and cheer on Jensen Motorsports as they represent the Mazda Road to Indy program on a worldwide stage.
