INDYCAR – ORECA Aero Kit for 2012?

See what happens when you win the 12 Hours of Sebring? Ok, maybe that is not entirely true, but there is very strong speculation that ORECA will join the growing list of companies that will produce an aero kit for the 2012 IZOD IndyCar Series.

The French company has already discussed the plan with INDYCAR CEO Randy Bernard and remains very interested in producing the components. The kits if produced will of course be available to all of the teams for use on the new generation car.

ORECA has been in the business of developing aerodynamic solutions for racing cars for a long time. They have really made their bread and butter in sports car racing, but have admitted in an article on SPEEDTV.com that a move to the US market is a current aspiration.

I love the idea of having a name like ORECA building kits. They are very experienced in the LMP design and definitely have a lot to offer a team. I think it also goes as a very positive sign to see outside motorsport teams wanting to be involved with the IICS. Honda has also announced that Wirth research will as well work on their aero kit for 2012. Wirth research designed the runner up car for HPD this past weekend at Sebring for the Highcroft team. While this is not F1 or ALMS, having companies like ORECA and Wirth Research participating only adds credibility to the series.
