Well the news has finally been made official. Dani Sordo will now compete along Kris Meeke in the new Prodrive MINI WRC. The team is not 100% sure when they will make their debut, but the fit of Sordo at the team is the best Sordo could hope for.
News had broken previously that a deal was done, but no official announcement was made due to Sordo’s Citroen contract. Now that the contract has expired, the announcement could be made. For Sordo, this is the best he could have hoped for and really a last option. While driving for the Citroen factory squad, the Spanish driver was unable to score a victory. Even when Sebastian Loeb would exit a rally, Sordo would not be able to find the pace to take the win.
Not sure what that means for the scores of other drivers linked to that seat, but I think Sordo and MINI are really the best each could hope for. This also takes away the big star team that we talked about earlier in the season. However for a new outfit like MINI, that may be the best situation as they try to find their place in a series that has been dominated by the big two.
