The Mazda Road to Indy program continues to gain strength! On Sunday of this week, the Star Mazda Championship Presented by Goodyear revealed that the April TBD slot on their previously released 2011 schedule will be an event on the 10th at the Barber Motorsports Park along with the IZOD IndyCar Series, and the Firestone Indy Lights. Any time that a feeder series can compete on the same weekends and at the same venues as the teams higher up on the ladder, its a good thing. Drivers, engineers, sponsors, and team officials are afforded greater opportunity to converse and build relationships. This is vital for a young driver. They get to show off their talents with some of the biggest names in motorsports looking on. Certainly, it increases the pressure of the race weekend, but if a driver can’t handle that pressure, they don’t belong in the top-tier of open-wheel racing. This additional event will put the Star Mazda Championship drivers on track on the same weekend as the IZOD IndyCar Series drivers seven different times throughout the year including the Spring Training open test.
