Sam Schmidt Motorsports announced today that it will be returning to the Indianapolis 500 Mile Race in partnership with Chip Ganassi Racing, a relationship that they continue from 2009. Best of all, they’ve secured Townsend Bell to drive the car! Bell has had a great run in the 500 the last couple of years with his best finish coming last year finishing fourth while running for KV Racing. This year he’ll be running the #99 car for SSM and hoping for an even better finish. While there are some who are unhappy with the continued use of the #99, and I can understand why certainly, don’t let that deter you from celebrating the return of a great driver to the Greatest Spectacle In Racing. This is fantastic news, especially coming so early. No word on what sponsorship will be on the car yet, but with five months to work on it, I’m sure they’ll land something.Related posts

Supposedly the winter meeting was jam packed with attendees (more so than in previous years). Seems to be a bit of momentum heading into the season.
I take it as a sign of this momentum that Ganassi and Schmidt have already inked and announced a deal to run together again this year. Good for Townsend, and all involved.
