This marks a significant step up for Charlie who raced last year for Palm Beach International Racing, as well as for Plowman (aka Plowey) who raced for the now defunct Panther Racing FIL team. AFS/AA has won the past two series championships with Raphael “Rafa” Matos in 2008 and JR Hildebrand in 2009. There’s no doubt that the AFS/AA rides are currently the best in the paddock. Although I’m happy that Plowey and Kimball are afforded this opportunity to really display their talents in top-notch equipment and I’m very excited to see what they can do, I’m saddened by the absence of Sebastian Saavedra from the 2010 AFS/AA roster. Hopefully, he’ll land on his feet.
Here’s what Michael Andretti had to say in an Andretti Autosport press release.
“We’re excited to bring Charlie on board with AFS Racing/Andretti Autosport for 2010,” Andretti Autosport chairman, president and CEO Michael Andretti said. “He is a great guy and a driver that has a lot of potential. He was a pleasure to work with at Zandvoort back in 2008 and we’re looking forward to watching him develop next season.”
