The Formula 1 silly season has really been centered around one individual. That man is double world champion Fernando Alonso. The Spaniard is currently the hottest driver on the market and has been all but put in the seat at the Maranello squad. Sponsors have signed, end of year banquets moved and all in anticipation for Ferrari’s next big signing. Hold the phone, President Luca has thrown a wrench in the plans by indicating that the Spaniard will probably drive one day for the red team, but next year is not it.
Usually around this time we are expecting an announcement from Monza about who will pilot the red cars, but instead we continue to wait and the person who everybody swore up and down would be in the car in 2010 is not. The Ferrari President continued to support the current driver lineup and even made mention of the seven time champion Michael Schumacher. Schumacher was extended for another three years at Ferrari yesterday and will for now remain a consultant to the team. A 2011 move is probable as the contract of Kimi Raikkonen will be over allowing the Finn to move on to his future aspirations. Luca di Montezemolo closed by saying all great drivers want to drive for Ferrari at some point. Looks like Fred will wait another year.
Fred for USF1!!! 😀
