SCCA – KCRSCCA Solo Event #1 in Photos

Well the Solo season is underway in the Kansas City Region of the SCCA, and it’s time for me to start the defense of my Street Touring FWD class championship. Some maintenance on Friday to replace the passenger side drive shaft on the Focus SVT didn’t go as planned thanks to a rounded-off nut. …and we were two nuts away from having the damned thing out, too. Oh, well, screw it. Popped the top on another beer, bolted it all together, and went to the pre-season testing session on Saturday morning. The car was making a little noise, but in all it held ok. Sunday was the first solo race of the year, and the car held up just fine, albeit making a bit more noise. I’ll not lie, I was a little concerned, but what am I going to do? Not race? PFTHHH! As if. RACE ON! Nick Sullivan and I swapped top raw times in class each run through the course, but unfortunately my runs always included a knocked down cone. In the end, Nick threw down a monster time on his last run and my little Focus, it’s tires, and it’s driver couldn’t squeeze out the extra three tenths needed to catch him up. Oh well. P2 in class and P13 overall out of 113 drivers isn’t terrible. I’ll keep developing the car over the season, and more importantly developing the driver.
