IndyCar-Ryan Hunter-Reay: “We have to be solid. We have to be in the top six.”

Ryan Hunter-Reay is having a dream season in the IZOD Indycar Series. For once in his career, he’s been able to build continuity with a team and develop relationships key to success. His reward? Outside of mechanical failures at Indianapolis and Texas, he’s been one of the most consistent drivers o nthe grid. Perhaps that’s why RHR now leads Will Power in IndyCar points. He’s just rattled off three wins in a row, and is prepping to make a serious charge at the championship over the final third of the…

IndyCar- Hunter-Reay Survives Toronto Street Fight

Ryan Hunter-Reay survived a rash of late race caution flags to take his third consecutive race win at today’s Honda Indy Toronto at the Exhibition Place circuit in Downtown Toronto. With his win, Hunter-Reay becomes the first American born driver to lead IndyCar points standings since Sam Hornish Jr in 2006. With the addition of Charlie Kimball’s second place finish, the 2012 Honda Indy Toronto marked the first time since the 2006 Indianapolis 500 that two American drivers finished atop the podium in an IZOD Indycar Series event. Hunter-Reay is one…

Indycar-Ryan Briscoe: “Yeah, it’s been tough.”

There’s no doubt Team Penske’s been the hottest team in the IZOD Indycar Series paddock this season. Out of seven races so far, Penske drivers have taken five poles and four wins. Most of the attention has gone to points leader Will Power and Helio Castroneves’ attempt to win his fourth Indianapolis 500 title. Penske drivers been at the front of Chevrolet’s charge back into the IZOD Indycar Series, leading the way in Chevy’s utter dominance of the first four races of the season and only recently being matched on…

Indycar-Detroit Grand Prix-Dixon Dodges Ditch Disaster

Target Chip Ganassi Racing’s Scott Dixon absolutely dominated the competition on Belle Isle to handily win the Chevrolet Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix. Dixon not only won the race, but he also won pole and led every lap. As most everyone predicted, there wasn’t much happening up front between Dixon’s dominance, the tight ARMCO and concrete canyons of the Belle Isle Circuit, the neutered track layout and EJ Viso doing a fabulous job holding up traffic for 27 mind numbing laps. Oh, then the track started coming apart. It’s a…

Indycar-Power Rankings After Round 5 of 16

Around 1/3rd of the way through the 2012 IZOD Indycar Series schedule, and we’re still seeing tight competition all the way through the grid. Yes, every race this season has been won by a “Red Car,” Will Power has won three of five races, and Penske/Ganassi cars have dominated Pole Position. It doesn’t feel like the overwhelming dominance by the “Red Cars” this year like it has in the past though. Perhaps it’s masterful drives by guys like James Hinchcliffe, Simon Pagenaud and the post-Lotus Oriol Servia. Maybe it’s the…

Hinchcliffe-“We’re Here To Put On a Show”

I had the chance to speak with James Hinchcliffe, driver of the #27 Andretti Autosport GoDaddy.com car this week. James is set to start Middle Front Row this Sunday in the 96th Indianapolis 500 Mile Race, the second Indy 500 of his career. Thanks to the Indycar PR staff, I was able to ask James a few questions during a media scrum held on Wednesday. For the past few years, the IZOD Indycar Series has used the Shootout to decide pole. In this format, drivers take their first qualifying run…

Row By Row-The 96th Indianapolis 500 Mile Race

This year is a unique Indianapolis 500. Not only do we have new cars and engines, but lots of new drivers as well. Filling this year’s filed are eight rookies, four other drivers that were not in last year’s 500, and only three returning winners. Interestingly enough, this has also been one of the cleanest Months of May ever. Contributing to that might be the fact that of the eight rookies, only two had never driven at a Champ Car, IRL or Formula One level before. Four drivers in this year’s…

Hello, May. It’s Time For The Indy 500

If you are a fan of the IZOD Indycar Series and the month of May doesn’t give you a case of the warm fuzzies, then something is seriously wrong. This is the month when speed is king and our diets consist solely of tenderloins. The smell of E85 gasoline intertwines with fresh Firestone rubber on the yard of bricks, and that’s when you know you are home. It might not be your physical home, but there’s something about hearing “Back Home Again in Indiana” over the sound of turbochargers that…
