Red Bull GRC Final – Live via RedBull.TV Streaming Today at 5PM Pacific

One thing many of use fans have been patiently waiting for is live streaming of Red Bull GRC events, and finally today for the championship deciding round at the The LINQ in Las Vegas we will get our wish.  By utilizing RedBull.TV, it means all web browsers and mobile devices and even Chromecast connected to your TV can get full HD quality streaming, and even the ability to re-play the action later.  The usability of RedBull.TV is a far cry from NBC Sports Live Extra web application in all kinds of technical aspects, but the bottom line is that RedBull.TV just plain works better.

Today, beginning at 5:00 PM Pacific Time the broadcast will begin for the championship deciding races.  There are four drivers – Joni Wiman, Ken Block, Nelson Piquet Jr., and Scott Speed—all mathematically capable of achieving the Supercar title.  Yesterday they already had qualifying and the first round of Heat races.  Winners of Heat 1 were Scott Speed, Ken Block, and Tanner Foust.  Interestingly Scott Speed not only won his Heat race, but also had the fastest qualifying time and did it in his first outing in the VW GRC Super Beetle.

Points race after Heat 1 are as follows:

Joni Wiman – 334

Ken Block – 323

Scott Speed – 306

Nelson Piquet Jr. – 305

It is sure to be a very close battle in Supercars for the championship.  The track looks like it has the right design elements and the drivers seem to like it too.  Here’s another look at the track map along with Ken Block’s description:

“There’s a good, long, first left-hand corner that I think will make for some good racing. The difficult part is where the sand is going to get dragged onto the hairpins after them, because it can make for some very tricky racing if too much gets dragged on. We’ll just have to adjust to it. Even from the little bit of media rides, the braking into some of the hairpins totally changed because of sand being moved around. I think it’ll be good—it’ll make for some good racing, and it’ll be fun.”

More GRC Lites too!!  I’ve been assured that this live streaming will include (FINALLY!) GRC Lites racing as well.  The final round of the GRC Lites has become a bit of a spectacle over the last couple of years with many “guest” drivers getting a chance to try out this new series.   This year will be especially interesting with the inclusion of World RX Supercar driver Andreas Bakkerud and Rally America’s Super Production driver Nick Roberts both getting a drive in one of these spec class purpose-built rallycross cars.  Championship winner Mitchell DeJong is likely to win yet again, but if anyone has a chance to upset that prospect it’s probably Bakkerud who won his first Heat and will line up next to DeJong in the semi-final.

Again, make sure you tune into RedBull.TV at 5:00 PM Pacific (8:00 PM Eastern) using your laptop, desktop computer, tablet, smart phone, Chromecast, whatever.  It should be a pretty spectacular event!  Personally, my money is on Ken Block getting the title.
