F1 – Sauber Launch 2 February

Sauber1Sauber has announced that its Ferrari powered C32 will be released to the public on the 2nd of February. The team’s new driver pairing will also be together in public for the first time. Nico Hulkenberg and Mexican rookie Esteban Gutierrez will be looking to put Sauber on the top step of the podium after a 2012 season that seen four podium finishes.

I really look forward to this launch. I thought the Sauber was one of the sharpest looking cars in 2012 and certainly proved to be one of the better technical solutions over the campaign. It will be interesting to see how this year’s drivers fair. It will also be the first full season with Monisha Kaltenborn at the helm as Peter Sauber retires.

McLaren – January 31st
Force India – February 1st
Sauber – February 2nd

  1. What? I thought you guys dubbed the Sauber as one of the WORST looking cars of 2012 at the beginning of the year (I think I remember some comments about their extra pronounced step nose and boring livery…as second worst to Ferrari). Is my memory getting faulty in my later years?

  2. Hmmmm….I would have to go back into the archives Andy and see exactly what my initial thoughts were. But, like a bad politician I may have flip flopped. To be honest, the car really did grow on me over the campaign. I think you would be hard pressed to find a single car on the grid that we thought looked good. I know the McLaren scored high marks with us all. The Red Bull rated highly with me because of the vanity plate they had over the step nose. I think your memory may still be good after all these years 😛

    1. I distinctly remember (and don’t ask me how, because I have no idea how my brain works) that you liked the McLaren, but preferred the Red Bull, because the McLaren was basically an “old style car” (or some similar sentiment). You will have to hide your surprise here, but I disagreed. 🙂 I thought the McLaren was the best looking car on the grid, followed by the Red Bull, and the Sauber slotted in just above the Lego-rrari (both of which I agreed with 100%). Whatever the case, I’m looking forward to this year’s cars, because they should look a ton better with the “vanity plate” on top of the step nose.

      1. You disagree with me? That never happens! 😀

I find your hanging on my every word disturbing….lol. Good recall there! Like I said, like a bad politician (or good apparently these days) I flip flopped mid season. It was the fact that the more I seen the cars, the more they grew on me. I remember saying that on the show and Mike still disagreed with that statement.
