Rally – Hirvonen/Fiesta @ Monte

2010-Ford-Fiesta-S2000-Front-Angle-Top-View-588x428The World Rally Championship runner up Mikko Hirvonen will compete in the Monte Carlo Rally as he debuts the new Fiesta S2000. Hirvonen and co-driver Jarmo Lehtinen will utilize the event as they prepare to take the fight to Sebastian Loeb and Citroen in the 2010 championship.

The Finn is a five time veteran of the Monte Carlo event and is familiar with route and conditions. Mikko has been very impressed with the Fiesta to date and looks forward to running it through its first paces in January. Malcom Wilson indicated that Mikko’s feedback would be crucial for further developing the S2000 entry. The new M-Sport prepared Fiesta is set for homologation in January just in time for the crown jewel of the rally world.

While Ford has stated they will not support a factory effort in the IRC, M-Sport will be supplying the new Fiesta S2000 to customers for a variety of championships including the IRC. It will be interesting to see Mikko show the IRC how it is done as last year Sebastian Ogier ran the event and took top honors. Hopefully this will show the world that the top rally talent will always be in the IRC. Hirvonen vs. Meeke…not the Loeb vs. Meeke battle people have compared, but we will see what the Brit is made of as he takes on top talent.
