F1 – Schumacher/Ferrari Talk at Monza

scuderia_ferrari_team_logo_07With the silly season in full swing and the Italian Grand Prix coming up, what would be a week without a story out of Maranello. While we were lucky enough to acquire Fisichella from Force India to help finish this years campaign, we still have to focus on where we are going to be next year. So lets stir the silly season pot.

Crash.net ran a story this morning indicating that both Ferrari and Michael Schumacher will be staging talks on Michael’s involvement in the team next year. However, what is not mentioned is to what capacity Michael will serve. At the moment we know that Michael is a “consultant” to the team. Which we found out means he will drive the car if another Ferrari is not able. However, due to those nasty lingering motorcycle accident injuries we were not able to see Michael in the car. Michael’s outspoken manager Willi Webber has not put to rest the fact that we could see the seven time champion back in the car.

“All concerned parties will sit down in Monza,” the German told Bild newspaper. “We’ll meet each other for the first time in peace again to talk.-Willi Webber

“[Whether or not he wants to return to racing] is Michael’s business. He participated in one of the most dangerous sports in the world for years. He knows best whether it’s good for him or not.”

Monza is typically where Ferrari announce their driver lineup for the following year and this year may be shocking for the Tifosi. Alonso has been rumoured to already have the ride lined up. That teamed with Felipe Massa expecting to return and now add the seven time champion to the mix. It starts to make ones head spin. So who does the Italian squad pick. I think that Michael will be a better choice over Alonso given today’s news and of course keep Felipe. Along the same lines, with either Michael, Felipe in the car, we then wonder how appealing that ride would be to Alonso. The Spaniard wants to go to Ferrari to win championships. How well would he be able to challenge with either Felipe or the F1 god for that title. This is where you come in. In the comment box put who you think would be the best pair for Ferrari heading into the 2010 season. The whole Formula 1 landscape may change in one weeks time.
