F1 – Sauber F1 Once More?

AUTO-PRIX-MAS-F1-PETER SAUBERFollowing this weeks news that BMW will no longer participate in the Formula 1 World Championship, previous team owner Peter Sauber has been reportedly working a Brawn like deal to rescue the Swiss based team.

The purposed deal is also being worked by Dr. Mario Theissen in an attempt to keep the car on the grid for the 2010 season. Sauber made it clear that he would do all that he could to save the employees of the team and keep the project going. Sauber has stated he has no intention of climbing back in the saddle as a team boss, and admitted that a solution needed to be found sooner rather than later. Sauber who formerly owned the team until he sold it to the Bavarian based auto giant, said that investment groups have shown interest and ideas have been submitted to the BMW board of directors. Sauber said at a recently held press conference that “in my 17 years in F1 I have solved bigger problems.”

Once has to wonder how quickly a deal can be put together and if successful, who will be in the car next year. Robert Kubica’s manager has been quick to say his driver is on the market and that his contract is over at the end of the season. Also, Nick Heidfeld is also stated his intention to continue his Formula 1 career and may sign with the Swiss based team if a rescue plan can be put together in time. We will continue to follow this story as details become available, but things will have to happen sooner than later if the team plans in having a competitive car in time for next season.
