Rally Argentina Wrap Up

Yesterday was the end of the Rally of Argentina and as usual the attrition numbers were high. On Day 2 we lost Mikko Hirvonen to overheating and day 3 saw its fair share of retirements. Jari Matti Latvala retired late in the day as did Petter Solberg. Both drivers had fuel pressure issues after a jump on course damaged the system. Sebastian Loeb won his 52nd rally of his career and his fifth straight this year. Citroen Total teammate Dani Sordo finished second and overtook Mikko Hirvonen for second in…

IndyCars – Kansas Quali Update

The rain stayed away just long enough on Saturday for the 22 IndyCar drivers and the 24 Firestone Indy Lights drivers to have a couple rounds of practice and qualify their machines for the two races on Sunday. Getting the races in might be a challenge. Severe weather moved into the area not long after the qualification and the same front will still be in the area on race day. Expectations are for dry, but windy weather until mid to late afternoon. The Indy Lights race will likely be run,…

IndyCar – Milka is Back

Dreyer and Reinbold has announced that Milka Duno has been picked up again for a limited schedule. With their 2nd car for Kansas and their 4th car for Indy listed as TBA, it was clear that Dreyer and Reinbold had something in the works with somebody other than Darren Manning and Milka’s name was most heavily linked with said works. While Milka definitely improved over last season, she is still not nearly as talented as most of the Indy Lights field. And while the media has to grudgingly accept that…

Rally – Argentina Day 1

Day 1 of Rally Argentina is in the books for the WRC and thus far Dani Sordo has taken a slight 5 second lead over Ford driver Mikko Hirvonen. Sebastian Loeb rounds out the top three in a day that saw a number of lead changes through tough gravel stages. From what I have seen this has been a very entertaining day 1 that saw everybody get in the mix to some degree. Latvala, Loeb, Sordo, and Hirvonen all had a taste of the lead at some point. P-WRC has…

F1 – Bahrain Preview

Here we are on the eve of the first free practice session and for me, it feels like the first race of the season. We have had a number of variables thus far that have hampered us from really gauging the field. And what would be a Formula 1 weekend without a little news to build up the show. The Sakhir circuit is a hot, dry, and a wide open race track. The long straightaways and twisty turns are going to be ideal for the KERS on the few select…

F1 – Look to Bahrain for True Pace

Bahrain may be the first pure grand prix of the season. As always, Melbourne was a safety-car stunted crash fest where the only true pace we got to observe was the FIA’s snail speed bureaucracy which still hasn’t finished its proceedings with the hapless McLaren team. Sepang has traditionally been the race that everybody starts to see how the championship is going to unfold, but this year Bernie, in his infinite wisdom, decided to push back the start of the race so that it would end at twilight despite protests…
