Red Bull GRC Media Day Round Up

Yesterday was the Red Bull Global Rallycross Championship Media Day held at the Hotel Maya in Long Beach, California.  The timing and location seemed fitting considering how many IndyCar teams and/or drivers are becoming associated with GRC as the area gears up for the IndyCar Grand Prix of Long Beach that takes place this weekend.   The biggest news we had already heard a few weeks ago, and that was the announcement of IndyCar team owner and overall motorsports mogul Chip Ganassi Racing joining the Red Bull Global Rallycross Championship for…

Chip Ganassi Racing Joins Red Bull Global Rallycross Championship

With the massive growth the last two years in the Red Bull Global Rallycross Championship it was probably just a matter of time before another of America’s giant motorsports powerhouses stepped in.  Last year Andretti Autosport joined the fray with Volkswagen and drivers Tanner Foust and Scott Speed.  Now, Chip Ganassi Racing is coming on board with drivers Brian Deegan and Steve Arpin, two proven GRC talents.  Ganassi’s has a new @CGRrallycross twitter feed, that shows that the drivers will be using Ford Fiesta ST GRC Supercars.  How long until we…

Red Bull GRC at DirtFish Rally School – The Definition of What Rallycross Should Be

I can sum up in just a few words what Red Bull GRC Seattle at DirtFish Rally School was like.  DirtFish DEFINED rallycross.  Simple as that. Why?  Well, as you have heard me say time and time again, it is all about the track.  The grounds at DirtFish were a perfect venue for the sport.  The cars started on tarmac, switched to gravel around the long turn 1, then back to tarmac as they went into the covered planar building, then back to gravel into turn 10, then to a…

Global Rallycross Returns to the USA – Quick Recap Before X-Games LA

The Global Rallycross Championship has returned to the USA and they wasted no time in stacking the events.  3 weeks ago they went to the New Hampshire Motor Speedway, and a week later were racing on the high banks at Bristol.  After a short break, the 500+ HP “angry bees” (as Tanner Foust has been quoted) are back at it again with X-Games LA this weekend.   The Courses so far: The organizers are quickly figuring things out.  For GRC to be viable, they needed proper rallycross tracks.  They got…

GRC – Overseas Recap

The Global Rallycross Championship returned to the United States this weekend.  Before I get into the drama of New Hampshire, here’s a quick recap of what happened overseas. First of all, I have been quite critical of the GRC organizers and their track designs, at least until now.  The first event was at X-Games Brazil, and the track consisted of 90% clay dirt and a single concrete slab used as the start / finish.  In Brazil the dust was a huge issue, so to combat that they added water to…

GRC X-Games – Brazil Review

The first round of the re-invigorated Global Rallycross Championship made its debut at the X-Games in Brazil last weekend. Quite a few drivers are committing to the full GRC season this year, as well as a number of one-off drives. Notably missing are Rhys-Millen and Hyundai after Hyundai pulled out of all motorsports in the USA at the end of last year. Also missing was the Subaru Puma team. It appears they are doing only the American events and skipping the more expensive long distance events. The…
