Formula 1 – Mercedes Classics Hit Nürburgring Nordschleife

I am a huge fan of all classic cars and a really big fan of classic racers. Whether it is the Ferrari abusing Ford GT40 or old Mercedes Grand Prix cars as mentioned below, I just love seeing where we have been in history compared to where we are and where we will be going! Enjoy this bit from the folks at Mercedes AMG Petronas:

On Thursday 4th July, the team warmed up for its home race in Germany by sending its two drivers out on a lap of the Nordschleife at the Nürburgring in two historic Silver Arrows – Nico in a Type W 196 and Lewis in a Type W 154. Juan Manuel Fangio (1954) and Richard Seaman (1938) respectively drove the same models to victory at the Nürburgring.

The legendary Nordschleife has frequently played a major role in the history of the Silver Arrows, from the debut victory for Manfred von Brauchitsch driving a W 25 in 1934 to the win for Juan Manuel Fangio in 1954 at the wheel of the W 196.

Those might have been the only two Grand Prix-racing cars that were exercised and photographed, but I saw a photograph of David Coultard driving a 300 SLR. My jaw dropped. Awesome steed.
