Indy Lights – Same-Day Airing of Iowa Sukup 100 This Saturday

That’s right SAME-DAY COVERAGE! NBC Sports has done a good job giving the Firestone Indy Lights air time this season by broadcasting every event, whether the IZOD IndyCar Series race was on NBCSN or ABC. Sure, the races were tape-delayed and usually shown on the following Thursday at a less-than-convenient time, but that’s what DVRs are for. However, those of us who are really thirsty for our Mazda Road to Indy action are loathe to wait so long and have been longing for the return of live, or at least near-live airings. Well, we’re going to get our wish this weekend as NBCSN has announced that they will expand their coverage of the INDYCAR events at the Iowa Speedway this weekend. On Saturday beginning at 7:30pm EDT with the IndyCar36 documentary which will feature Charlie Kimball this week. This will be followed by the heat-race qualifiers for the IZOD IndyCar Series, and flag-to-flag coverage of the Iowa Corn 250. Following the big cars, NBC Sports Network will air the Firestone Indy Lights Iowa Sukup 100. The race will actually take place between the IndyCar qualifying heats and the race, but it will be nice to have same-day coverage, even if it will be late. Set your DVRs! Although last year’s race was a follow-the-leader event for P1-P3, the rest of the grid was VERY racy including Victor Garcia’s fantastic drive from dead last to P4. Apparently, this may not be an isolated event. NBCSN may be looking to re-slot all of the Firestone Indy Lights races closer to the IZOD IndyCar Series races. A good idea, if you ask me! These teams and young drivers can use and deserve all the exposure they can get.
