TV – Weekend Racing Schedule for Sept 3rd, 4th, and 5th

The schedule this weekend is considerably lighter than it was last weekend, but then most weekends are. Last week was almost too much! …nah, there is no such thing as too much motorsports. This week, though, we do get a bit of a breather. IndyCar Racing arrives at the extremely competitive 1.5-mile Kentucky Speedway. Last year Ed Carpenter nearly pulled off a David-and-Goliath story against Penske driver and then championship leader Ryan Briscoe. Ryan just barely nosed ahead of Ed to score the win. Last week’s race at Chicagoland Speedway was another heart-stopping thriller (we can debate whether that’s a good thing or not later), and Kentucky will likely be more of the same. The championship implications of this week’s outcome is huge. Dario Franchitti cut Will Power’s lead by more than half with his win at Chicago, and if Power has another poor result at Kentucky he may be looking to catch up in the points rather than defend from the lead. Its open-wheel oval track racing, so you never know what will happen. One minute you’re in the lead, the next you’re in the wall because of someone else’s mistake.

MotoGP doesn’t get a week off. After the great event at Indianapolis last weekend, the two-wheeled circus is off to San Marino. The Indy GP saw rookie Ben Spies take his first MotoGP pole and earn his first podium all on a satellite team bike! No one had anything for Danny Pedrosa (curse you Todd, get your voice out of my head!) The MotoGP bikes put on a good show every where they go, but San Marino is special in that it’s The Doctor’s home track. Expect much Rossi coverage in the broadcast, and a sea of yellow flags everywhere around the circuit!

ALMS and Formula 1 both have this weekend off, RallyCar won’t have their next rallycross event until next month, and the WRC’s Rally Japan isn’t until next week. If you missed the Rally Deutschland coverage, you can catch the daily highlight shows on Saturday morning. Who needs cartoons when you have rally? There are also several other replay shows including the Knoxville Nationals Saturday night on Speed. One unique offering this Sunday afternoon is the Versus coverage of the Dodge Viper Cup. I’m not a huge Viper fan, but hey, it IS sportscar racing, so I’ll watch it.
