TV – Weekend Racing Schedule for August 27, 28, and 29th

FORMULA 1 RETURNS! MOTOGP RETURNS! INDYCAR OVAL RACING RETURNS! Its a great weekend to be a racing fan with access to cable TV. At long last, the Formula 1 returns from holiday to compete at one of the most epic racing circuits on the planet: Spa-Francorchamps! Spa is always a good show, especially if the rains come as forecasted.

The shorter MotoGP break is also over and the riders return to Indianapolis. Sadly, I will be watching on TV this year, rather than being at the track. I’m gutted about that, honestly, but I will return next year. I know that many rag on the IMS road course for being a roval, but I argue that it is in fact a natural terrain road course. Have you been to central Indiana? …flat as a board.

ALMS runs its first back-to-back weekends of the season in Mosport. The last three races at Lime Rock, Mid-Ohio and Road America were EPIC! The classic Mosport course should provide more of the same with great action as always in the GT class, and the LMP class beginning to show signs of life once again with great drama and excellent racing. Can the Flying Lizard boys hold on to their lead in the GT championship? The last three LMP races saw three different winners. Mosport could go to anyone!

The IZOD IndyCar Series finally returns to the ovals under the lights at the Chicagoland Speedway in Joliet, IL. Will Power leads the championship at the moment, but Dario in his Target Chip Ganassi Racing ride has the definite edge on the 1.5-mile tracks. Can Power keep up with the Scot, or will the ovals prove to be his Achilles Heel? In addition to the fight for the championship, there are a lot of other drivers with a lot to prove and show. With the season winding down, drivers are going to look to prove their worth as they shop for 2011 sponsors and rides. There’s going to be a lot of mid-pack action to be sure. By the way, what’s the over/under of which lap Takuma Sato smacks the wall? If I were setting the line, I’d put it at lap 125.

For those of us who love the junior formulas just as much as the top-tier series, the Star Mazda Championship races at Mosport will be televised LIVE on HDNet! Conor Daly has a stranglehold on the series championship. His closest competition is from Anders Krohn, but Anders is 69 points behind the first generation Irish-American lad. To Conor’s credit, he hasn’t slacked off the pace. He continues to attack each race as if he and Anders were tied. Star Mazda has always produced great racing over the years, and the coverage HDNet provided in New Jersey and Joliet earlier in the year was first rate. This weekend’s show should be quality viewing.
