F1 – Loeb Looking for Bourdais’s Seat

STRSebastian Loeb has put his name on the table for the Scuderia Torro Rosso drive should Sebastian Bourdais be sacked. The Frenchman has notified the team he is ready to make the switch and run both WRC and Formula 1 until his commitments with the Citroen team have concluded.

It was highly unlikely that he will get a seat in time for the Hungarian GP, but if you remember, last winter Loeb ran a Red Bull Racing F1 car and impressed the team with his ability. Loeb has stated he does need to get into better physical shape before going 70 laps in a GP. However he has not ruled out driving the car at some point this year. Jaime Alguersuari is currently the name getting the most play in the media and the odds favorite to get the seat.

Could Germany be Le Seb's swan song?

I think that seeing Loeb in a car over the reserve driver would really bridge the two series together and be a bit better than seeing the Red Bull reserve driver in the car. Loeb was impressive during his winter test and there has been talk that he has been running simulators in his free time. Sebastian has also had some experience while testing Le Mans series cars during the off season as well. The man is a very talented driver and would do good to get the last half of the season before starting a long 2010 campaign. It will be an interesting silly season this year, and looks like it is already going into full swing.
