IndyCar – Meira Situation Update

85915732DI029_TOYOTA_GRAND_Vitor Meira suffered a massive accident in the 93rd running of the Indianapolis 500 and has been transported to Methodist Hospital. Track officials did say that Meira was alert and moving all extremities after the huge head on impact at 220 mph. He was carried off the track on a stretcher but was complaining of lower back pains. Rapheal Matos was the second car involved and suffered a bruised knee. He was able to walk off the track but needed track officials assistance. We will keep the situation updated as information becomes available.

Reports from Methodist hospital indicate Vitor Meira is being treated for two fractured vertebrae. There is no further information on the medical situation. Analysis of the crash is currently ongoing in an attempt to prevent such instances such as the one witnessed today.
